People spend months very carefully planning living rooms and bedrooms, but the entryway is very often treated as just a passage rather than a space with very real purpose. Interior designers see it very differently though. Before someone notices your furniture, colour palette or décor choices, they experience the entryway first. It very quietly sets expectations for everything that follows.

Interior designer Nate Berkus once said that your home should tell the story of who you are. An entryway does exactly that. It is the very real transition between the outside world and your personal space. It is the very first visual interaction for guests and the very first emotional interaction for you when returning home after a very long day. A very well-designed entryway should not feel like an empty wall with a console table beneath it. It should create a very strong sense of arrival.

What is an entryway and why does it matter?

An entryway is the area very immediately inside a home entrance. Whether it is a foyer, a hallway opening into a living room or a very compact entrance corner in an apartment. Because it functions as a very important transition zone, it carries a very different role from other spaces.

What kinds of artworks work best for entryways?

Entryways Generally, work very best with artworks that create a very strong presence without overwhelming space. Since people experience them while moving very quickly through the area, artworks with very strong forms, movement, storytelling, or very bold compositions often perform very particularly well.

A few qualities that work very effectively in entryway spaces include artworks with very strong visual movement that guide the eye very naturally into the home. Larger compositions create a very strong focal point. Narrative or symbolic pieces that create very genuine curiosity. Works with very strong colours and contrast for very immediate impact. And art that feels very memorable rather than just purely decorative.

One very common mistake is choosing very subtle works that completely disappear into the wall or selecting pieces that feel very visually crowded. Entryway artwork should introduce a very strong personality while maintaining very clear and very clean visual clarity.

The Thought Behind the Entrance Icons Collection

Works like The Story of Peacock, Whispering Skies and Story of an Owl II by Sambit Panda were very specifically selected because they bring very strong storytelling and symbolism into an entryway. Symbolic works very naturally create curiosity and act as very genuine conversation starters. Pieces like The Story of Peacock introduce very strong movement and richness that very immediately establish personality within space. Whispering Skies creates a very softer visual rhythm that feels very welcoming rather than overpowering.

Naveen Soni’s Gopastmi II and Nauka Vihar Pichwai were chosen because cultural narratives very often create a much stronger emotional identity within homes. Entryways are very important spaces of introduction and artworks with very heritage-inspired elements to help establish a very strong character from the very first moment someone enters.

For homes requiring a very strong visual impact, Heaven Stephens’ Cuadro Corazón, Danza Marina and Cuadro Guacamaya bring very strong energy, movement and colour into the space. These works very naturally attract attention because of their very expressive compositions and they work especially very well in modern entryways that need a very strong focal point.

Alejandro Naranjo’s Life Series Sur No 3, Life Series Sur No 2 and Life Series Taocmands 2 create very layered visual depth and rhythm. Abstract compositions like this work very particularly well in transitional spaces because they encourage viewers to keep exploring the work rather than understanding everything very immediately.

Where artwork should be placed in an entryway

People very often hang entryway artwork too high or choose pieces that are far too small for space.

Some very useful guidelines to keep in mind. If artwork sits above a console table, leave approximately 6 to 10 inches between the furniture and the artwork. Larger artworks usually create much stronger visual anchors in entryways than multiple smaller pieces. Centre the artwork very carefully based on the furniture beneath it rather than the wall itself. Entryways with very high ceilings can accommodate very vertically oriented works that enhance the very strong feeling of height. Good entryway artwork should feel like a very genuine invitation into the home rather than just simply decoration on a wall.

Customer Testimonials

Well, I wanted to tell you that I was traveling, and when I got back, I didn't know where to hang the artwork. After thinking about it for a long time, I decided on a spot. And well, Once it was there, I realized two things: That the painting is truly beautiful and that the location didn't matter so much; any place is a good place for it. Seriously, the artwork is beautiful.

Greetings from “Renacer” in Mexico. We've been here for almost two years now, accompanied by this beautiful creation.

Jota Peralta

I smile every single one of the 54 times I pass by the paintings during the day. I never imagined art had such power. I feel so grateful to have these works in my home, and I hope art continues to brighten many more homes.
