Every brushstroke carries a story, every canvas holds a world.
Signature Artist Feature | Elisium Art
In contemporary art, some artists discover their calling not through formal training but through profound personal experiences. Colombian artist Claudia Delgado is one such voice whose paintings blend abstract and figurative expression, guided by intuition, spirituality, and a deep love for color.
A self-taught painter, Claudia began her artistic journey later in life after a transformative moment while traveling in Europe. Today, her work explores the emotional power of color, the depth of the human spirit, and the freedom of artistic expression.
Through vibrant compositions that move between abstract and figurative forms, Claudia creates paintings that reflect inner contemplation, personal transformation, and the beauty of the natural world.
A Journey from Journalism to Painting
Claudia Delgado was born in Colombia and initially built her professional life in a different field. She studied social communication and journalism, working in media before discovering her artistic path.
At the age of 26, she began painting seriously, following a moment of reflection in which she questioned her deeper purpose. While she had always been drawn to creativity, painting emerged as an unexpected yet powerful answer.
From that moment onward, art became a central part of her life. Without formal academic training in fine arts, Claudia developed her practice independently, allowing her instincts and personal experiences to guide her exploration of abstract and figurative painting.
A Transformative Encounter with the Masters
One of the most defining moments in Claudia’s artistic journey occurred during a trip to Europe.
While walking through Las Ramblas in Barcelona, she entered a private fine art gallery where she encountered works inspired by great masters such as Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet, Édouard Manet, and Salvador Dalí.
Among these works, a painting inspired by Monet captured her attention. As she stood contemplating it, she experienced what she describes as an inner voice telling her that she would paint.
At that moment, the idea seemed almost impossible—she had never held a brush before. Yet the experience left a deep impression, marking the beginning of her artistic journey.
Soon after, Claudia began experimenting with painting, starting with simple surfaces such as ceramic tiles before gradually expanding into larger compositions.
Abstract Expression and the Language of Color
From the very beginning, Claudia’s paintings naturally emerged in an abstract style.
Rather than deliberately choosing between abstraction and figuration, she allowed the process to unfold organically. Color, gesture, and emotional expression became the central elements of her work.
Her paintings are characterized by vibrant colors, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive compositions, often created in both small and large formats.
In some works, abstract structures dominate the canvas, while in others subtle figurative elements appear—especially when she explores cultural themes or representations of women from different regions.
For Claudia, painting is ultimately an emotional language. Each canvas becomes a space where inner experiences, spiritual reflections, and life’s transformations can take visual form.
Influences from Culture and Inner Reflection
Although Claudia’s work is largely driven by inner exploration, cultural elements also appear in her artistic language.
At times she incorporates naïve or figurative representations inspired by Latin American culture, depicting women or landscapes connected to regional identities.
Yet the deeper source of her work remains personal and spiritual. Her paintings often reflect internal processes, emotional growth, and the quiet contemplation that accompanies life’s transitions.
This combination of abstract energy and figurative symbolism allows her work to move fluidly between personal expression and cultural narrative.
