El Rijksmuseum cuenta con una extensa colección de un millón de objetos, que incluye arte, artesanía e historia desde el año 1200 hasta el 2000. Actualmente, se exhiben 8000 objetos. El museo contiene más de 2000 pinturas que representan obras icónicas de figuras legendarias como Rembrandt, Frans Hals y Johannes Vermeer, incluyendo "La ronda de noche (1642)" de Rembrandt y "La compañía de los magros (1633-1637)" de Frans Hals y Pieter Codde.
