Natalia Avila Velasquez is a Colombian visual artist whose work explores the interplay of abstract and figurative elements, often infused with an impressionistic sensibility. Inspired by the ephemeral beauty of nature, light, and color, Velasquez delves into themes of fragmentation and transformation, creating evocative and poetic imagery. Her artistic process is deeply informed by the likes of Klimt, particularly his use of golden and organic geometries, and the expressive light and color palettes of Impressionism. She views art as a mirror reflecting the fragility and constant evolution of life.
Velasquez honed her artistic skills at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia, graduating with a Master of Arts degree with a specialization in Plastic Arts. She further enriched her artistic and therapeutic practice by obtaining a Master's in Art Therapy and Art Education from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain. This dual focus on art and therapy informs her creative approach, allowing her to explore the intersection of art and personal narratives. Since 2020, she has worked as a professional artist and art therapist, creating both personal pieces and commissioned works centered around individual stories.
Throughout her career, Velasquez has earned several accolades. Her undergraduate thesis, "La casa, el tiempo" (The House, Time), received meritorious recognition from the Universidad de los Andes, where she also achieved semester-based distinctions of excellence. She continues to explore the therapeutic power of art through projects in diverse settings, including private consultations and interdisciplinary collaborations spanning art, gastronomy, and psychology.
