Mithun Dasgupta

Mithun Dasgupta is a contemporary Indian artist known for his dynamic exploration of abstract and figurative painting. His work, spanning over two decades, draws inspiration from the vibrant cultural tapestry of India, interwoven with personal experiences and observations of the human condition. He masterfully blends bold colors, intricate textures, and expressive lines to create captivating visual narratives that resonate with viewers on an emotional level. His artistic journey reflects a continuous evolution and experimentation with various techniques and mediums within the realm of fine art.

Dasgupta's formal art education began at Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, where he received a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Painting) with First Class honors in 2005. He continued his studies at the same university, earning a Master of Fine Arts (Painting) with First Class honors in 2007. Upon graduation, he embarked on a career as a freelance artist, dedicating himself to the pursuit of his unique artistic vision. His early career was marked by participation in numerous group exhibitions and competitions, allowing him to hone his skills and gain recognition within the Indian art scene.

Throughout his career, Dasgupta has garnered significant recognition for his artistic contributions. He is a two-time recipient of the prestigious Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant (2016 and 2021), a testament to his artistic merit and innovative approach. He was awarded the West Bengal State Akademi of Dance, Drama, Music and Visual Arts Award in Painting in 2020 and the State Fine Arts Award (Rajya Charukala Puraskar) in 2019. Among other accolades, he received a Junior Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India (2011-2013) and the 44th Annual Exhibition Award from the Birla Academy of Art & Culture, Kolkata (2011).
