Johan Gómez is a compelling Bogotá-based contemporary artist whose artistic journey over the last five years navigates the powerful intersection of Expressionism, Figurative art, and Realism. His work is a profound exploration of empathy, using the self-portrait as a universe to understand shared human experiences and connect with the viewer. Drawing inspiration from his grandfather's legacy in traditional woodworking, Gómez’s oil paintings and mixed media pieces, such as his notable '1398' series, champion meticulous craftsmanship over mass production, embedding each piece with personal history and raw emotional honesty.
Gómez’s solid foundation was built through rigorous fine art education. He began his formal training in 2021 with preparatory studies at the prestigious ASAB Faculty of Arts, Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas. He is currently completing his Bachelor's degree in Fine and Visual Arts at Universidad Antonio Nariño, demonstrating a continuous commitment to honing his craft. This academic pursuit is complemented by diverse training in digital illustration, design, and classical oil painting techniques, giving this emerging artist a versatile and well-rounded skill set that informs his sophisticated and technically proficient realism painting style.
As an award-winning artist, Gómez's talent has been recognized through significant accolades. Most notably, he was awarded the highly competitive "Beca Jóvenes a la U" scholarship in 2021, which provides full funding for his undergraduate studies. His work has also earned him placements in prestigious competitions, including a Sixth Place finish in the "Relatos de Emoción" open call. His growing reputation is further solidified by selections for international art residencies like R.A.R.O. Bogotá and his participation as an Artbo Tutor, marking him as a significant emerging voice in the contemporary art scene.
