Erika Marcela Villarreal Castro

Erika Marcela Villarreal Castro, known in the art world as Marcevil, is a dynamic contemporary artist and architect with over 15 years of experience shaping the urban landscape. Her compelling artistic journey is a vibrant fusion of Abstract, Street Art, and Pop Art painting styles. Drawing inspiration from basic geometric forms, vivid color palettes, and a profound desire for community-led public space revitalization, Marcevil’s work is a testament to the power of urban art. Her dual expertise allows her to approach large-scale murals and public art projects with a unique understanding of spatial composition and social impact, making her a significant voice in the contemporary muralist movement.

Marcevil's foundation is a unique blend of formal education and grassroots experience. She earned her degree as an Architect from the Universidad Piloto de Colombia in 2018, providing a structural and theoretical framework for her creative practice. However, her artistic career ignited much earlier, in 2008, when she immersed herself in Bogotá's burgeoning street art scene. This early period was crucial for developing her multifaceted style, honing her technical skills in muralism, and establishing her commitment to collaborative art that engages directly with the local community, transforming neglected spaces into open-air galleries.

Throughout her career, Marcevil has earned significant recognition for her talent and dedication. Her exceptional work has been celebrated with several awards, including 1st Place in the Women's Category at Sur Fest in both 2015 and 2016. A major milestone was receiving the prestigious "Beca Murales para la convivencia" in 2019, a grant awarded for a large-format public mural promoting social harmony. These accolades, combined with her role as a jury member at various art events and features in publications, solidify her status as an award-winning artist and a respected leader within the international street art community.

Her work has been showcased in numerous prestigious festivals and exhibitions globally, including:

Customer Testimonials

Well, I wanted to tell you that I was traveling, and when I got back, I didn't know where to hang the artwork. After thinking about it for a long time, I decided on a spot. And well, Once it was there, I realized two things: That the painting is truly beautiful and that the location didn't matter so much; any place is a good place for it. Seriously, the artwork is beautiful.

I smile every single one of the 54 times I pass by the paintings during the day. I never imagined art had such power. I feel so grateful to have these works in my home, and I hope art continues to brighten many more homes.
