Chetan Katigar’s journey as a contemporary figurative artist began during his school years, where art became a powerful medium for self-expression, creativity, and personal identity. His curiosity about the artistic process inspired a lifelong commitment to painting and ultimately led him to pursue a professional career in the arts. His formal training includes a Drawing Teacher Diploma (2009), followed by a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) and a Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.), completed in 2018.
As he developed his artistic voice, Katigar recognised the importance of cultivating a distinctive style within traditional contemporary art. Deeply inspired by Raja Ravi Varma, particularly his depictions of Malayali life, Hindu mythology, tribal culture, and everyday experiences, Katigar began creating works that blend cultural heritage with contemporary expression. His figurative paintings are characterised by bold, sweeping brushstrokes and a carefully chosen palette of seven earthy and vibrant colours. Through scenes of rural life, nature, and human experience, he transforms personal memories, observations, and emotions into compelling visual narratives that celebrate the richness of Indian culture and contemporary figurative art.
Believing that art serves as a visual language for thought and emotion, Katigar uses painting to explore identity, tradition, and the beauty of everyday life. His work reflects a deep appreciation for India’s artistic heritage while offering a contemporary perspective that resonates with modern audiences.
Recognising the power of digital platforms and international exposure, Katigar has actively participated in numerous art fairs and exhibitions. His notable appearances include IAF Bengaluru (2024), the International Trade Show by Nalini Creation in Lucknow (2025 and 2024), Suburia Art Fair (2024), the Indian Art Festival, New Delhi (2018), and the Kolkata Centre of Creativity (2019). Through these exhibitions, he continues to expand the reach of his contemporary figurative paintings, contributing to the growing appreciation of Indian contemporary art on a global stage.
